On Wednesday 22nd May the Home Guard visited Long Wittenham. This was a brilliant learning opportunity for the children to have first hand experience of artefacts from the war and the volunteers who presented were knowledgeable and informative.

On Friday 12th July Penguins visited Bayerlab, a science lab in Green Park, Reading.  It was opened in 2018 by Theresa May and is designed to inspire the scientists of tomorrow through practical experiments in a real life laboratory.  The work we did complemented our work on Alchemy Island earlier in the year as we were learning about properties of different materials, including acids and alkalis.  We also learnt how scientists use different states of matter in their experiments.  We all made our own bath bombs and lip balm, and it was a brilliant experience.  All the children said they felt more inspired by science at the end of the day, even those who were already very keen.
